Remind Me and Others

Description:

As we gather, weave our legacies, and behold the common threads, we may just be blessed by the precious and sometimes unexpected warmth of the resulting fabric. The blessing may even be in something we failed at or lost along the way. Our days are few. How we spend them reflects what is most valuable, most durable, most honorable. This collection of personal essays, stories, and poems is dedicated to any and all who cherish the moment, remember the day, and honor the years.

Description:

In this unique take on the autobiographical genre, life isn’t a chronological tale to be told from beginning to end but rather a bouquet of flowers randomly picked over the course of six decades and assembled over several months.

Inspired by memoir-writing courses at the college where he served as dean, Morgan Scott Phenix decided that his story was worth telling. The result is an assortment of short reflections and candid stories that work together to paint a vivid portrait of a life from childhood to retirement, and beyond.

Rather than a chronological story told from beginning to end, you’ll see a selection of threads and patterns that have been woven into the fabric of Phenix’s life over the years—the influence of his family, his relationships and marriages, his travels, jobs and commitments, and ultimately his unwavering faith in God.

And just in case you find yourself inspired to pen your own life story while reading this thoughtful memoir, you’ll find tips and hints inside for putting together and publishing your very own autobiographical work. Phenix firmly believes that every life is worth living and every story is worth telling, and that includes yours, too!

Description:

Elizabeth wrote to reclaim her life. To save it. But she couldn’t have guessed where the words would take her. Or who might be touched. Elizabeth’s intriguing fictional autobiography defines a lifelong adventurer and dreamer. And an imprisoned housewife. Elizabeth’s Story is about coincidence and contradiction. Lives suspended between truth and fiction.

Elizabeth roomed with Kathryn at a coed Quaker boarding school in Pennsylvania. Senior year, 1964. The two girls formed a lasting bond, and made plans for writing their life stories. They drifted apart, sharing only an occasional note over the years.

Fifty years later, Kathryn receives a letter from Elizabeth, planning to travel to California by train, to reclaim a sense of peace with her friend. Elizabeth is carrying a manuscript. Her story. She tells pieces of the story along the way. But Elizabeth’s Story is about two such journeys, as a messenger delivers a copy of Elizabeth’s published memoir in Denmark, and he too shares pieces of the story.

The book transports readers from Pennsylvania to Denmark, Thailand, and Switzerland and from the Sixties to the present. As tales are told and retold, mysteries at the story’s heart are revealed, and hearers end up contributing to the story.
